While in college, I noticed how expensive clothing was in the MetroDetroit area. Determined to offer an affordable, high-quality option for students like myself, I launched The Diamond Boutique, an online clothing store, during my junior year. The Diamond Boutique was inspired by the SHEros around us, trying to “ball on a budget” and be beautiful.

The truth is, I started The Diamond Boutique on a budget and a whim, with no plan and no real access to capital. I learned firsthand how hard it is to fund a business without a lump sum saved or given to you. Before I knew it, I was in debt and getting denied for credit left and right. I went from having seven credit cards to creditors randomly closing my accounts, raising my rates, or denying me. I knew I had to do something about it.

I finally took the time to educate myself about how credit worked and to understand a credit profile. After reviewing my profile, I noticed quite a few errors and disputed them. With four small steps, I was able to go from a credit score of 439 to joining the 700 club in under six months. Now, I help others do the same.

Changing my credit score and gaining access to large amounts of credit transformed my life. I was able to invest in new inventory for my clothing store, purchase seasons in advance, and buy software to automate every aspect of my business.
